Palestinians Targeted in New Israeli Death Penalty Law

Global outcry from human rights groups surfaces after it was found that Israel has passed a new death penalty law clearly targetting Palestinian people.

The law was described as allowing the death penalty for any murderers who partake in killing with the belief that Israel does not exist as a state. This would automatically target Palestinian militants. The death penalty would require death by hanging.

Human rights groups across the globe claim that this law will only bring more violence and suffering, as it would harshly target Palestinian soldiers and leave little to no inclusion to Israeli murderers.

Volker Türk, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, claimed in a statement Tuesday that, "The measure is a “particularly egregious violation of international law”.

Countries such as Australia, Germany, France and Italy have shared the same concern.

The Trump administration has so far remained silent. A states department spokesperson stating that Israel has the right to determine its own laws.
